Bristol City and Charlton eyeing up a move for Preston North End goalkeeper

Bristol City and Charlton are eyeing up a move for Preston North End goalkeeper Chris Maxwell, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Championship side Bristol City and League One side Charlton are eyeing up a move for Preston North End goalkeeper Chris Maxwell.

Chris Maxwell has been the first choice keeper at Deepdale in the past few seasons, but has lost his place to Declan Rudd in Alex Neil’s side. Although, last season Chris Maxwell signed a new contract, committing him to the club until at least the summer of 2020.

The goalkeeper is keen to get a transfers away from Preston North End, to seek regular football for the second half of the season. Chris Maxwell stated he wanted to play week in week out when he signed a new contract as he told the club website“I’m absolutely delighted. It is fantastic knowing that I’m going to be here for an extra year as well.”

“It gives me an opportunity to help progress Preston North End and hopefully progress myself in the process.”
“When I first came here I said I wanted to make the No.1 shirt my own, I wanted to play week in, week out for Preston North End and at the moment I’m doing that.”

Currently, Niki Maenpaa is the number one at Ashton Gate, but the former Brighton & Hove Albion keeper surely will lose his place if Lee Johnson signs Chris Maxwell.

The highly rated goalkeeper made over 100 appearances for Fleetwood Town, and was a stand out player at Highbury, the Welshman picking up the club’s player of the year award for the 2014/15 season.

In the same season, Maxwell was also nominated for the North West Football Awards’ League One player of the year, but North End defender Paul Huntington won the award.

The goalkeeper has represented Wales at youth level from U17s through to U23s, and was on stand-by for Chris Coleman’s Euro 2016 squad.
