Georgiou in Cyprus Squad
Monday, 23rd Sep 2019 14:46

Blues loan winger Anthony Georgiou has been named in the Cyprus squad for their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Russia next month.

The Cypriots, currently fourth in their group, travel to face the Kazakhs in Nur-Sultan on Thursday 10th October before hosting Russia at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia three days later.

Georgiou, who will join up with the squad following Town’s game at Fleetwood a week on Saturday, has previously won eight full caps, including sub appearances in September’s two internationals, a 1-1 home draw with Kazakhstan and a 4-0 win in San Marino.

The 22-year-old, who was born in Lewisham and qualifies for Cyprus via his grandparents, is on loan with the Blues from Tottenham until January.

If Town have three qualifying players called up for international squads then they will have the option to have the home game against Wycombe on Saturday 12th October postponed.

I feel if he doesn't start to nail down a starting place in the Town side, we could end up losing him back to his mother Club at January. But on the plus side that's hopefully a reflection of how strong the squad is!

I really dont like the international breaks they never help us, our form always takes a dip!

Still can,t see any reason to postpone games just because we have fringe players from smaller nations called up. Judge is the only one of note and quite a few on here question his inclusion in the starting line-up.

imo it was a mistake to postpone game in last break, we were going well, we not be on song when time comes to play it, , games in hand all very well BUT you have to win them .may come back and bite us on the bum .

Georgiou seems to have label on him a squad player. When he came on against Wimbledon he completely changed the game and became the crowd's darling. But its obvious after watching him more he does very little defensive work and until he improves his work rate he will always be a squad player or luxury player.
