Host of Championship clubs keeping tabs on Fleetwood Town midfielder

Fleetwood Town midfielder Kyle Dempsey is attracting plenty of interest from the Championship.

A host of second tier scouts are believed to have watched him in action yesterday against Tranmere Rovers, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke on Twitter.

Dempsey, who is 24 years-old, is a key player for Joey Barton’s side but his contract with the Cod Army expires in the summer meaning they are vulnerable to losing him for a paid fee in the January transfer window.

The Whitehaven-born midfielder started his career at Carlisle United and rose up through the youth ranks at Brunton Park. He made his first team debut for the Cumbrians in January 2014 in a League One fixture against MK Dons.

Dempsey went onto make 51 appearances for Carlisle as a youngster, chipping in with 11 goals which earned him a move to the Championship with Huddersfield in 2015.

He played 24 times for the Yorkshire side but was loaned out to Fleetwood for the 2016/17 season before they decided to sell him on a permanent basis to the Lancashire side a year later.

Dempsey, who spent part of the last campaign on loan at Peterborough United, has established himself as a key player for Fleetwood under Barton and has played a key part in their rise to the top end of League One.

They will be desperate to hold on to him this winter amid interest from the Championship.
